Randy,

I built a GCC-4.0.0 system some time ago (and needed the partition, so
overwrote it later along with my records) and quite a lot of BLFS built
quite easily - at least a basic X11 and non-server apps.  Yes, some
packages failed to compile in some way, or had 'strangenesses' after
building, and in almost every case I found the patches at:

        http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/devel/

to fix the problem.  I found this link from Schafer's Digger-it-yourself
site.
