I agree with Greg, Pacman is superior to Slackwares Pkgtools and does not depend on a quirk only available in tar <= 1.13.. I have created numerous interchangeable PM modules (DPKG, Pacman, Pkgtools and Pkgutils) for my personal education/use, for Greg's DIY code and use the progenitor of Pacman, Per Liden's Pkgtools. I would not recommend the Slackware PM due to the 'tar' limitation and its lack of sophistication and DPKG is for masochists ( 3.
