Hi Randy,
OK, I ran totem and tried to open a couple of *.wmv files. I got the
message "You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You
might need to install the necessary plugins.". This came up in a pop up.
I installed gstreamer , gst-plugins-base and gst-plugins-good. For each
I installed only the "required" packages according to the book. As you
can tell, I don't know a lot about how audio/video works on a computer.
I need to learn more of this and hopefully going through the exercise of
building all this from scratch will help me learn. Without a lot of help
from friends on this list I wasn't even able to play a .wav file when
mail came in. :-( Any bones you can throw my way will be GREATLY
appreciated. Any other information you need, please ask. I don't know
enough to know what you need to help me.

Arnie
