For gstreamer, all the dvd plugins are in plugins-bad and plugins-ugly.
You'll need those guys and their dependencies to get anything going.

However...

Current gstreamer-0.10 dvd support is pretty poor. It's slowly
improving, but I just found out the other day in some guys blog that
most of the developers (who work for a company called Fluendo) are
contractually obligated to not work on the DVD code for some reason. So,
the code is suffering.

Now that you've gone through all the pain of installing gstreamer, I
would suggest installing the xine libraries if you want to get dvd
support going. Way, way better. Totem works great on dvds for me w/
xine, but was horribly broken w/ gstreamer.

Now I will read about the error with libmpeg2.
