Ah, definitely no lights. I'm not sure about the near and far
clipping, I'll have to
do some resizing to check.

About the near and far thing: if your camera near and far is to small, your
model will not fit in the area that your camera 'records'. And you might
also wanna check where your camera is pointing to, if it's not pointing at
your model, you obviously will not see anything.
Regarding the nodes and meshes(correct my if i'm wrong):
A mesh is a surface, made up of polygons.
A node is a mesh with some extra properties(each node belongs to a mesh),
and it can have parent and child nodes.
