Ok, that makes sense.

I think the problem is that my 3D designing app of choice (Sketchup)
is exporting
extremely suspect 3DS files that don't really adhere to the same standards -
I've noticed a few 'UNKNOWN CHUNKS' in the dump output too. It's going to take
a bit of tweaking to get it all right.
