It certainly will make it a sham for those refusing to participate
when they are opposed to the US imposing a government process upon
them, not of their own choosing. If we reversed this process, and the
Iraqis were occupying the US, and put in place an Islamic oriented
government, complete with confirmation elections essentially against
large segments of the US population that would not go along, then that
too would be a sham, particularly more so in our own eyes. If we can
objectively make this switch, then the sham nature of the Iraqi
elections take on greater meaning.

Again, as above, the evidence is simple: Forced occupation by a
foreign power, and a process that did not originate with the Iraqi
people themselves. The forced regime change, occupation, and forced
election procedures are all the evidence that is necessary.

Not necessarily, although in some elections at least, we are getting
close to only one half of citizens otherwise eligible to vote,
actually going to the polls in the US. If the majority of ANY people
refuse to participate in the democratic processes available, then such
a government cannot claim to have widespread, or perhaps even majority
support. Any leader, thus elected, cannot certainly claim any
mandates to govern, other than a minority clique that elected him/her.

Well, that doesn't matter, particularly when you seem to concede that
a lot of factions in Iraq will be left outside of the loop, or the
choosing of the next government. If these groups ascertain that the
small clique in power is NOT the result of enough Iraqis to constitute
legitimacy, then the election will prove to be a sham, and the
government will likely be overthrown in due course.

> As far as I can guess, no such statement has been made.

Statements by the Shrub Regime's Whitehouse have nothing to do in
determining when an election is destined to disaster, particularly if
large numbers of US military are withdrawn and a convoluted civil war
results.

No. I am NOT suggesting that the US military remain in Iraq to support
the forced government in the aftermath of this invasion and
occupation. I am suggesting that such force should never have taken
place against Iraq in the first place, and secondly that any regime
change that does take place in the aftermath of this, will likely be
viewed as illegitimate by a majority of Iraqis, and most certainly
will be most Islamic nations which make up one-third of the world's
population.

Kindest regards,
Frank
