I didn't have any problems writing to CDs with the drive. Nor did I have problems reading data from the drive. It was when I used my favorite MP3 player, MusicMatch v4.0 to rip audio from music CDs that I ran into problems. Programs were complaining that they couldn't extact digital audio from the designated drive. I did a few Google searches, and found a complaint about the M820E having problems with MusicMatch ripping CDs. I'd prefer to use the same program to play and rip MP3s, and not to have to clutter up my HDD with a bunch of programs, but had to do so in this case.
