I wonder if those cards you tried are cardbus cards. The 50 & 70 Librettos
only have a 16 bit bus, and will only recognize older PC cards. Raymond
just outlined how to recognize the difference between the two types
recently. There's a difference in the edges of the card where it's inserted
to the PCMCIA bay. Check the archives for that.
I have an old Xircom combo dialup/NIC card, but I can't recommend it as I've
always had a problem with it conflicting with the Toshiba power saving
drivers at boot. Maybe a few other list members can report which cards
they're using. It's always easier to search EBay for something you know
works.

I recently purchased a Libretto 50ct on Ebay. I have tried a Linksys and
Orinico Gold cards on it, and I can't get it to recognize either card. I am
currently running Win95 and I have the original 16. MB Ram and less then 1
Gig Hard drive. What would be the easiest, most foolproof way to get on
line. Should I and can I upgrade to Win98 or do I try another card?
Thank you in advance for any help.
