Also did the same for FlashMX and using
CTRL+V or EDIT>PAST indeed got the grouping.

However, using EDIT>PASTE SPECIAL it prompts you to either paste as
Picture(Metafile) or Text(ASCII)

Similar issue in Flash.  Paste from Word and it pastes in letter 
groupings as objects.  I blame Word, being the over-engineered piece of 
crap that it is.  I usually paste the text from Word into a new email 
message (or any PLAIN text editor you have handy) then re-copy it from 
there and paste it where it needs to be.

Now that I think about it you should be able to copy from Word, create 
and open a text field in Director (so Directors little text editor 
window is open) and paste it in there.
