There is an Australian draft law "Prohibiting Academic Cheating Services" out for comment, proposing up to two years imprisonment, or more than $100,000 fine. Students who use the service will not be subject to this law, just those providing the service. The universities will be left to discipline their students. That is all good, but the law also provides for search engines and ISPs to be ordered to block cheating sites.

I am a little worried by the way such provisions are creeping into laws. It is very easy to say "Oh, let's just block it", rather than deal with the underlying issues.
