Except with the 2.4 kernels, all those "inaccessible" volumes can be brought
online to Linux and formatted with no problems (or regard for what might
already be on them).  The only real answer is to take them out of the gen.

Before the initial install system is IPLed, there is a parameter that
can/should be used to limit the disk addresses that Linux will be able to
use.  It will sense them all, but will only be able to use the ones that you
tell it.
