The filesystem you are using for SAMBA doesn't support files > 2 GB. That is
the simple answer. The solution is much harder. Convert you SAMBA server to
use a filesystem that supports files > 2 GB.

I don't know which ones that would be. But it would have to be one that
support the NT file system, as in, blanks inbeded in directories and files,
long directory names and file names. Then, of course the large file support.

If you don't have the support for all features of the Windows filesystem, you
will have problems down the road.

I was running for months, fat, dumb and happy, until I tried to unzip a file
that had imbedded blanks in the directory name. My Samba filesystem didn't
support that. Got to do my SAMBA installation over again (under VM it was
easier than redoing the filesystem), with a filesystem that worked better. I
ended up with reiserfs for SAMBA use.

The scenario is this:

In my zLinux (zSeries with SLES9 etc.) I have mounted a Windows (windows
2000 (c)) disk via smbfs.
I want to generate a file in that smbfs type disk. If the file I generate is
< 2 GB, then no problem. The problem arises if and only if the file I
generate reaches a size over 2 GB. (The db2 export process starts and you
can see the file growing and growing in your Windows Explorer (c). But when
it gets to 2.197.052 a cancellation occurs with the message "SQL10018N The
disk is full. Processing was ended." which is not true: I have 70 GB free
but the smbfs has a 2 GB limit. (Unless you know how to overcome this, of
course).

Yeah, that should be plenty recent.

So, what is hosting the file that this is going on to, and what kind of
filesystem is it really?
