I think you're going to have problems with this. From my reading on the Web, a "console server" is a device to which you can connect (ssh?). That device then connects to one or more UNIX systems via a "serial interface". The UNIX boxes treat these serial ports specially. But there are NO serial ports on a System z machine to connect to. If a z/Linux system is "sick", but still ssh accessible, then let them ssh directly into it. If the penguin is so sick that needs to be rebooted, I don't know any way to do that other than by logging onto z/VM (or the HMC in LPAR mode). Perhaps something could be done with an intermediate penguin, but I can only vaguely think of what. I.e. logon to the "master penguin" via ssh and somehow have a interface there to z/VM to issue commands to the sick penguin (maybe only a CP FORCE followed by an AUTOLOG)? -- John McKown Senior Systems Programmer HealthMarkets Keeping the Promise of Affordable Coverage Administrative Services Group Information Technology The information contained in this e-mail message may be privileged and/or confidential.
