No, I would have expected it to be transparent. Email me your new initrd off list and I'll take a look at it. I'm suspecting that for whatever reason, dasd_diag_mod isn't being included in it. If that's the case, adding it to /etc/sysconfig/kernels will fix it, but I'd like to see the initrd.
