Normally I take a look with "which java" to look which java is picked up, normally /usr/bin/java. After install a new bin, I will make take "java" link to the new java inside the installed directory, so in your case: ln -s /opt/ibm/java-s390x-80/jre/bin/java /usr/bin/java
I find this useful if some new java version doesnt work well, so I can link back to an older version.
