Yes - same for me - I've been boring with this message Mr. Alan Cox
for more than halve year - so far there is no solution for this.

Again - please look at the source file for apic.c in 2.3.X kernel source 
tree - there is comment that apic on BX chipset has some problems
probably.

Do you have network card in you computer - as on my machine it looks
like the hangs begun after the ethernet module is loaded into memory.
