When I recently changed my .sig, I received several lame comments about
how I wasn't following my own advice, using such a sig while flaming
trollers rather callously. But that's nothing compared to "Jackie"
here; one must presume he hasn't even managed to read his own sig, let
alone understand what it says and its applicability to his own comments.

I think you're getting things backwards. These Linux advocates harp on
CHOICE, and in order to have a CHOICE, you have to know both
alternatives. You probably got flamed for whining about having to do
something from the command line; nobody I've ever heard or seen (save
one or two special exceptions, hardly a 'gigantic subset of zealots')
who "attack" *anyone* who uses KDE/GNOME, let alone everyone, as your
statement suggests.

Microsoft's "credibility" has nothing to do with anything. This isn't
some stupid reality TV show, where the loser gets voted off the market

KDE and GNOME make Linux look and act like Windows to those who are
generally ignorant about computers, the more "user friendly" it will be
declared to be. Yet the opportunity to actually learn, rather than
being a slave to the GUI, is not removed, as it is with One Microsoft
Way.

The main thing holding back Linux from the masses is not the O.S. but
the sad socially inadequate people who critisise anyone or anything who have
problems learning how to use it.
Perhaps it's a deep seated complex that causes these people to resent
anyone else joining their exclusive little club, but the only ones they
really hurt are themselves. Their behavior only puts off others and
consequently software companies from supporting Linux.
The normal people amongst us try and help other people progress their
knowledge of Linux but there are sadly far too many who just dedicate their
lives to rudeness and attempt to put others off.
Maybe it all stems from being bullied at school for being nerds or
something....
