I don't ever remember paying for Real Player. You mean MS introduced their
media player for the same price as Real Player? Say it aint so!! A software
company introduced a product and priced it competitively with the market
leader, MY GOD what gall they must have!!
Ever priced the Real Audio/Video encoder?

Seems a little high! Looks like they could use some competition, in a

What part of copyright law says anything about being "useful"? Or

Aside from this fantasy having nothing to do with the law, if the
operator must 'have' this component, then it becomes a use issue.
That is, you have a copy of the library under its own terms and
anything dynamically linking to it does not make a copy but uses
the existing copy which you have the right to use. The code calling
it does not make or contain a copy of the library - it simply uses
the routines.

Yes, if you statically link the library into a binary and distribute that,
you would be copying the covered work. However, with dynamic
linking there is no such copy, and in the case where the end user
obtains his own copy of the library and makes the final link it is
a matter of use, not distribution.

The case the FSF claims does infringe is where there is no known
alternative to a GPL'd library and it is required for operation of
the program. Aside from having no real basis for such a claim,
whether a program infringed or not could change after it was
written, or could be incorrectly decided based on not knowing
about the existence of an alternative library that might be used.

No, I have never said anything like that. What I have said is that
each library may have its own terms to allow you to use it. Having
met those terms, you may then use those libraries by running
