I just caught up with this thread today, so I'm not sure which "Communist
policies" you're talking about. Most worthwhile historians feel that the basic
economic ideas of Communism could have worked in ***SOME COUNTRIES***, at least
in terms of industrialising to the point where a country can compete in a
global, or even a regional market. However, those same historians acknowledge
that the ***METHOD*** by which Communism has been implemented in 99% of
instances has been obnoxious and violent. You have to differentiate between the
theory and the actual practice.

not Linux. Linux'ses goal was to be Unix compatible. It has done that

"The very long directory name" is not because people type better, but
because GUIs are becoming the paramount way to do things.
Try using a command shell to walk around Windows NT. It sucks.

Except that it's not clear they did. Linux builds on Unix technology,
tried and true stuff with a proven philosophy and large code base.
This isn't "right the first time", this is "improvement by trial and
error", or perhaps "evolution". (Not that that's a bad thing.)
As for BeOS, I couldn't say. I haven't used it.
