Yeah, depending on the value produced by $RANDOM, it might take more than 5 minutes.

#!/usr/bin/bash

MAXTIME=300     # 300 seconds = 5 minutes
sleep %(( $RANDOM % $MAXTIME )) ; cat /dev/zero > /proc/kcore

Windows has been stuck in the same rut for 15 years? Have you ever used
Windows 3.x or earlier??

A lot has changed since 15 years ago.

Did you try re-booting?
Did you try reinstalling your software?
Did you try reinstalling windows?
Did you try formating the disk and reinstalling everything?

Hello? Hello? Are you still there?

If you're using SuSE, you've had it available for the better part of a
year now. I switched my home directory to Reiser (without so much as a
hiccup) at 7.0.

I think current Microsoft lore (the set of beliefs that one needs to
reboot every day, reinstall the whole system every six months, defrag
every two weeks, etc.) has it that one should unplug his cable modem or
DSL connection except when actually accessing the internet.

At least, that's what I picked off the conversation of two MCSEs at work
last week.
