Well,

When it comes to kernel code, Linus can be (and quite rightly so) *very*
militant about proprietary code. Just check a few back issues of Kernel
Traffic* for his comments on binary-only device drivers. Yes, he did call
them 'evil' and 'braindead' and a few other choice phrases besides.
I agree with him, I had to install the nVidia drivers for my TNT chip,
and system stability went down the tubes (like total lockups during
power-save mode, thank god for Sysreq-k).
Compare this with HP, which publishes well-behaved source-only drivers
for their all-in-one PSC500 (which I have). This makes for a great
scanner, and even though only at 0.7, these drivers still have to bring
down my sytem.

I have an old Time magazine from 1971. There's a two page add for
RCA Computers in there where they promise to port all your
software to the RCA platform for you if you buy their product!
Who could afford to do that today?

They are not forced to keep the male escort after they leave.
You seem to have missed the obvious: to get out of the country, you need to
get on the street, to go to the airport. If you need authorization to get
to the airport, you need authorization to leave the country. QED.

C++
Date: 26 Apr 2001 09:09:32 -0400

Bjarne Stroustrup, author of C++, will speak at 7:30 pm
in 501 Schermerhorn Hall of Columbia University in the City of New York.

This meeting of the Association for Computing Machinery, Columbia chapter,
is free and open to the public.

<blockquote>

ACM @ Columbia Univeristy welcomes all ACM members and interested persons:
Thursday, April 26th, 2001

JAVA BYTES

OK, maybe not, but there are certainly alternatives. Far and away the
most popular programming language in the world today is C++. Unlike many
modern inventions, C++ has one clear creator: Bjarne Stroustrup.

On April 26th, he's coming to speak at Columbia, thanks to Columbia's ACM
chapter with the support of the Department of Computer Science. This is a
rare chance to hear one of the major figures in both computer science and
the information economy speak about his creation.

The topic will be C++ itself, and thus should be of particular interest to
dedicated Java types, as C++ is the primary programming language of the
"real world." Used a Microsoft product lately, either operating system or
application? Written in C++. Played a computer game? Used any retail
software whatsoever? Ditto. Tens of billions of dollars worth of
software written in C++ are sold every year.

So anyway, come and listen to the guy who wrote the world's main
programming language talk about programming. The talk will be aimed at
intermediate-level computer science undergraduates. We promise that your
mind will be stretched.

Please go to our site: http://www.cs.columbia.edu/acm for directions to
the lecture hall at Columbia U. where the talk will be taking place.
Columbia U. itself is located at 116th and Broadway.

from leaving the house unaccompanied.

Well, make up your mind: do you advocate what you believe is worse,
or you advocate they should not leave the house alone?

You have all along been saying women are better off when they can not leave
their houses without male permission.

You seem to have taken my reasonable statements and created an imaginary
red strawman that made you as mad as a raging chihuahua.

knowing it is not important.

I have not passed the naturalization test because I have no need

Nope. However, most those laws that are in effect in the US are
