Many thanks for the responses I've got!
However, things are somewhat more complex than they seem to be - or I cannot
see the forest due to the large amount of trees as a German saying points out.
In fact, I have - and I studied the book about sendmail. But let me point out a
little more about my configuration:
- I have an internet interface via ISDN,
- I have a local name server for my local net I work on most of the time,
- I managed sendmail to mail all mail within the local net directly but spool
all outgoing mail,
- my supplier is t-online, having it's own mail host which is the "SmartHost"
for my local machine,
- currently I use XFmail, however, I am afraid that it will vanish sooner or
later because there are no more updates and hardly any info traffic on the
mailing list of XFmail.
- XFmail is configured to send mail via sendmail, and sendmail gets the
parameter -ODeliveryMode=deferred, hence mail is only queued.
- Once a night sendmail is called via sendmail -q and forwards any mail to
mailto.btx.dtag.de, my suppliers mail server.
- all those efforts are neccessary because I had a hard time to get my system
quiet i. e. not always dial into the internet for simple mail transfers or
whatever. This had turned out to be very costly before.
- I have attached my configuration file I use to create the required
sendmail.cf file.
I would really appreciate if you had the time to take a glance on it and maybe
have an idea how to make Netscape notice my mail setup.
Many many thanks in advance,
best regards
