by setting up rules.  These are usually in a separate filter file but can be
included directly in diald.conf.

The examples use standard.filter as the filter file though you can build
your own version.

See 'man diald-examples' and look over the section on filter rules for an
explanation of what is going on (yes it's a big file and this section is
easy to overlook).

for STMP outbound bring up the link and close it after 1 min idle you could
use:
        accept tcp 60 tcp.dest=tcp.stmp

for HTTP connections bring up the link and close it after 10 min idle you
could use:
        accept txp 600 tcp.dest=tcp.www
