It's more reliable to dump everything immediately.

In that case I would:

ip-down:save the cache to disk
        stop named
        start named without reading the cache

ip-up:  read the cache from disk

Or I would ask for a static IP number from my ISP so I could avoid messing
around with that business in the first place.
