You can ftp from the linux box because its packets do not have to be
masqueraded. They already have the correct ip address.
Make sure you have the masquerading modules installed on your system. You
may have to rebuild the kernel if you don't.
#ls -lR /lib/modules
to see what's installed.
after you
#modprobe ...
do
#lsmod
to see whether the modules are loaded. You can also use tcpdump on the
linux box to see what the systems are saying to each other.
