Hi --

So it turns out the problem is with the ftp server I need to connect
to, which happens to be a Winnt 4.0 box.

I have no trouble ftp'n through the diald/masq box from my Winxx
boxes to Linux or Unix sites or from my Linux client to this
particular Winnt 4.0 server, or directly from the Winnt client to the
Winnt server (by connecting the modem directly to the client), but
when I try to ftp from my Winnt client to this Winnt server through
the Linux diald/masq box, the server hangs when it tries to make a
data connection.

Looking at the logs, it seems that when the Linux client (using Gnome
ftp) makes a data connection, it first sends a PASV command, then
requests the data, and all goes well. I tried to duplicate that from
Winnt ftp, but it don't know nuthin' 'bout a PASV (or "passive")
command .... any ideas about how to work around this? Anyone else
having a similar problem?

It's the kind of thing that makes one think unkind thoughts about Mr.
Bill ....

Thanks.
