$200 for a standard font? Wow! Who on earth would pay this price, when any
distribution of Windows or word processor already includes it? I was under
the impression that only "special" fonts for graphic artists cost that much :(

Maybe, because nobody in their right mind will go buy a "david" font from
a font seller, they won't mind giving it out for free, in return for a little
free publicity? Let's pray :)

You have my blessing :) May the source be with you!

I think that it should go the other way around, i.e., these companies tell
you what the deal is (e.g., "you can distribute our fonts if you name the
font foundary after us, and put our name in the font howto and on the manual
and whatever") and then this deal will be put in the font license file.
Anyone who wants to make a distribution with these fonts (including one of
us, Redhat, or whatever) will need to follow the terms of that license.

It is up to you, however, to get a "good" sensible deal, that we won't regret
later (i.e., don't let them ask for their name to be printed on the CD-ROM.
Redhat won't agree to that, for example). You can tell us of the deal before
it is signed and ask for advice, but nobody here has any special authority.
