Sorry if this has already been mentioned. I'm just picking some parts of the
thread since I'm bogged down with work...
While moving partition contents, make sure you don't use a cp or mv. They
will normally not preserve permissions. Here's a trick I saw somewhere that I
have come to use very often...
# (cd /source_dir; tar -cf - *)|(cd /target; tar -xf - )
It effectively tars the source directory contents to stdout and then untars
it in the target directory. Beware tho' that if you have any hidden (read
.dot files) you'll miss it because of the '*'
