Original post mentioned VSNL. IMO everybody sucks. Nobody provides guarantee of BW and uptime. Secondly extremely idiotic routing makes things even worse. Pay and pray. Everything you get is bonus. I thought VSNL was opening the field quite a bit. But recently one of my friend, who works as installation engineer in a telecom compnay, told me that, VSNL aske for 2 Crore for laser connectivity at short distances and 20 crore for earth station connectivity. The bandwidth belongs to physics. Equipment belongs to telco(Which I gues doesn't cost even a lakh..) and customer pays the charge. I wonder what VSNL has to charge for. Besides it's laser.. so no frequency band allocation is required either.. It won't land anywhere unless BW is free enough..
