We are supporting around 65 users with a 128kbps line (radio link) from vsnl. the same pipe is used for the e-mail traffic as well. we are getting a reasonable throughput. we are using a proxy server and the users are connected over a LAN.
In my opinion, the solution should be installing a linux box configured to act as a proxy server. with the spread of the users, I would prefer to connect them over a Fibre Optic LAN. The connections should be distributed by switches instead of hubs. For the internet connectivity, I would prefer to have a 128kbps raw bandwidth rather than having a 2mbps pipe from VSNL. I believe, satyam and other ISPs are providing such service. We have rather bad experience on VSNL shared bandwidth service. They appear to forget to maintain the proper users ratio and ultimately you might see yourself in a position of having to try and support 50 users with 128kbps line!!!
