Not really -- newer versions of Firefox have decent Indic rendering
built-in. I use http://linux-india.org/ as my test site for Indic
font rendering, and it's been working just fine on:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060406
Firefox/1.5.0.4 (Debian-1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.4-1)
This is the default Firefox installed on Debian testing. Yes, earlier
versions of Firefox did have problems.
