I just went thru the autoconf info pages...

It seems that autoconf would be very good if used for creating something
poratble from scratch as Arun mentioned.

But in my case, I am faced with 100's of make files, m4 files and .c
files...

Making a configure.in for this might be overkill if they require only a
port to Linux but will be worth it if they require 10 other ports.
Something i should find out from my managers....

I read the document on Porting applications to Linux by Matt Welsh.

Are there any more such docs which will list all the issues involved with
porting applications ??

Thanks for all your replies.

Regards,
Amit

Depends on the situation. If the program needs to be portable across
10 different Unices, then autoconf is the way to go. But if there is
a substantial amount of time and effort that has gone into writing
existing makefiles, it might be easier to just port them over and fix
whatever HP-UX vs GNU tools incompatibilities, should they crop up.
