Just started over with a clean 2.2.12 kernel and tested all my gizmos. No
change from my previous posts, but I am sending this as a summary of my
experiencies. Haven't gotten around to testing a SH888 yet.

Hardware:
Laptop with SMC chip
Psion Series5 palmtop
Tekram IR-610 LAN access
Nokia 8810 phone

I am using the irport driver since the SMC driver always results in a very
sudden reboot. The IrDA utils version is 0.9.3-pre8.

Results with clean 2.2.12:
Sending and receiving files to/from the Psion works
LAN access works
IrCOMM to the 8810 fails most of the time (every time today)

Result with 2.2.12+irda3 patch:
Sending and receiving files to/from the Psion works
LAN access works
IrCOMM to the 8810 works except for dialling

I am voting for the patch. Having an up-to-date Linux-IrDA in 2.2.x would
be preferable even after 2.4 is out. Even though I can't get it to work
with the 8810 it's still an improvement since it allows a stable terminal
connection. At least this enables phonebook editing, choosing network and
switching the phone off :-)
