The "waiting for sender" is AFAIK an "feature" of the PalmOS. It displays
this box and then waits for an IrOBEX message. It's only a problem
if you do not plan to use IrOBEX (then it will block IrCOMM or any
other use of the Palm).
Turning on dicovery (irmageger -d 1) will start a discovery cycle IIRC
every 3 seconds. Discovery is needed for any IrDA connection. If
discovery is turned off then a discovery cycle will take place only when
a local application (on the linux box) tries to make an IrDA connection
and needs to find a potential party to connect to.

Do not try to get rid of it. It is OK if you expect an IrOBEX connection.
(pressing the cancel buttun will disable such connections).

I have in the past. I have not tried it again once that I got IrCOMM working.
I can try irobex_palm3 again later this week (but then it will be on one of
the most recent development kernels, not 2.2.13).
