Thanks for the suggestions. I just now downloaded and compiled
Linux-2.2.13 with the suggested IR-patch. Then I modified /etc/conf.modules to
contain:
alias tty-ldisc-11 irtty
alias char-major-161 ircomm-tty
(and nothing else, btw)
I also check that I have the following entries in /dev:
crw-r--r-- 1 roott root 161, 0 Nov 14 21:10 ircomm0
crw-r--r-- 1 roott root 161, 1 Nov 14 21:19 ircomm1
crw-r--r-- 1 roott root 161, 16 Nov 12 17:36 irlpt0
crw-r--r-- 1 roott root 161, 17 Nov 12 17:36 irlpt1
crw-r--r-- 1 roott root 60, 64 Nov 13 02:42 irnine
And that the following modules are available:
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/w83977af_ir.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/toshoboe.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/tekram.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/smc-ircc.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/pc87108.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/litelink.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/irtty.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/irport.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/ircomm-tty.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/girbil.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/esi.o
/lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/actisys.o
After rebooting, I try:
irattach /dev/ttyS1 (my IR-port lives there)
irmanager -s1 -d1
I hear the nice "beep" and see in /var/adm/messages:
Nov 14 21:20:17 laptoy irattach: Serial connection established.
Nov 14 21:20:22 laptoy irmanager: executing: 'echo laptoy > /proc/sys/net/irda/devname'
Nov 14 21:20:22 laptoy irmanager: + 1.1 Tue Nov 9 15:30:55 1999 Dag Brattli
Nov 14 21:20:22 laptoy irattach: Serial connection established.
Nov 14 21:20:22 laptoy 1.1 Tue Nov 9 15:30:55 1999 Dag Brattli
Nov 14 21:20:22 laptoy
So far so good, I assume. However syslog reports:
Nov 14 21:20:17 laptoy irattach: tcsetattr: Input/output error
Nov 14 21:20:22 laptoy irattach: tcsetattr: Input/output error
Hmm...
I activate the IR-port in my Ericsson, and put within range of the IR-port of
my laptop. After waiting a bit, I try:
cat /proc/net/irda/discovery
And I get:
IrLMP: Discovery log:
Ok, not good. I try to exchange the phone with the PalmIII - and nothing
happens. Usually the Palm will show some dialog box ("waiting for sender to
transmit" or something) whenever in reach of an IrDA device. That doesn't show
either.
Prior to patching (i.e. when using kernel 2.2.12 with the original IrDA-stuff)
I could communicate easilly with my Palm, and I could "discover" the phone.
Since I know that a lot of IrDA-rewriting has taken place, and that the patch
should change quite a lot in the IrDA-subsystem, I assume that I have just been
stupid and left out doing something important. Can anyone help me clarify what
that might be?
Any suggestions much appreciated.
On another note (and the answer is probably better kept off-list): have anyone
succesfully managed to communicate between a PalmIII with PalmOS 3.3 and an
Ericsson SH888?
