Definitely.  Your phone initiates data connections as just that, and the GSM
network must respond accordingly.

Not necessarily.  One network I use here charges less for data calls.

Except when your computer does it, it sets the call type, which you can
do with the Ericsson by "setting" data menu on, and then "next call type" to
data.

I think data calls are more traffic intense, or can be if you use them to
their maximum.
