I haven't seen these messages. For me, IrCOMM to my phone (Ericsson
A1018s) works fine after doing _only_ these commands (kernels 2.4.0test5, 
2.4.0test7, 2.4.0test11pre3):

modprobe nsc-ircc dongle_id=9
ifconfig irda0 up
modprobe ircomm-tty

Although I get tons of warnings about ircomm already registered from
devfs. I assume a %d is missing somewhere, as I only get a /dev/ircomm and
no ircomm[0-9]*.

It has been a long time since I tested OBEX, though. I'll have a look at
it (probably tomorrow).
