No. It is weird and suggests a possible OMFS trouble. I'm
sending cc to Bob so he can comment on this.

This is reminiscent from the early versions of libkarma, where
most (or all) errors were just "failed request". After error
handling was implemented, more detailed errors were defined in
many functions, but some parts still need refinement...
