I haven't tried it yet, as I need a bigger harddrive, but I've heard that
StarOffice (www.stardivision.com) is really good (and free for non
comercial use).

I use GIMP. It's a great program. Very full featured, and in my opinion
it's at least on par with most commercial graphics programs. It's
available at:  www.gimp.org
