modem trouble

hi all

i have a slight problem first i could not get my modem to work with linux 
period but i posted a question three days ago and after reciving a 
bountiful sum of responses i have managed to get it to work in the shell 
and i' am able to use minicom but now i have encountered another problem 
aka it will still not dial in xwindows and i would sure like to use the 
graphical browser for the internet

i have used linuxconf to set it up but to no avail

please help :)
