I have a Neomagic display for an HP Omnibook 2100 with Redhat 5.0. As
far as I can tell Redhat 5.0 comes with XFree86 3.2. In the Linux on
Laptops HOWTO for my computer it says my card is not supported by
XFree86 yet and I have to go to http://PrecisionInsight.com to get a
driver. I went there and got the driver and went to install it (rpm -ivh
XFCom......rpm) and the message I got from it was
XFCom.... requires XFree86 >= 3.3.2. Fine. So I went to xfree86 org and
got the required files for the 3.3.3 release. I ran the preinst.sh
script it was OK, and then I ran the postinst.sh script and it ran OK.
But then I went back to install the
rpm -ivh XFCom......rpm
and got
XFCom.... requires XFree86 >= 3.3.2 again.
Did I not install the XFree86 version correctly? I only ran preinst and
postinst is there a step in between that I missed or why is this new
version not recognized?
Thanks,
Michael Stearne
