modem problem

I've  found minicom (thanks to everyone who advised this) but now I can't 
seem to get the internal modem to work (its not a windmodem). I keep getting 
a NO DIALTONE report although the phone is working. 

During installation of RH5.2, I confirmed the presence of an internal modem.
But I don't see an entry in /etc/fstab. What am I missing here; and is
there a modem how-to somehere out there?
