Prime time - out of beta testing, into a stable release. Like KDE is

At least GTK 1.2 is out, so one major bugbear in this fixed.
KDE in its betas simply said you need Qt 1.X . Download and compile
eveything in the support tarball. Now the KDE libs. Now base and
eveything else in any order. Unlike gnome, which is everything in this
ftp dir, plus a few things in our distribution which you may or may not
have already, and which replacing breaks all your stable programs, plus
anything E happens to need and some esoteric things like support for
scheme.

Which can be configured to take less space than Window Makers wharf, and
is OPTIONAL!. Try a more recent KDE.

Which assume you are using Redhats latest release. Even for the
tarballs of gnome. Not a big help.

Subjective choice, tastes differ. Try both. If you can get gnome
working,
that is.
