Hi All,
First posting from me while I type my redhat is happily installing next
to me. I have been in the IT Consulting, Outsourcing and management for
years, the biggest problem, (consistently) has been the ability of
Windoze & NT users to quite happily self configure and destroy their PCs
without any reference to Admin or company standards.

Yesterday I spent 6 hours on a very productive machine undoing a self
imposed software and driver upgrade.

Yes Linux is difficult if you come from the windoze environment, we're
very used to finding our way in the dark by pushing all the buttons to
see what they do. (And everyone who has ever admin'ed in the windows
environment knows this is true.) And yes if youdon't know what you're
doing its goi g to take you three to four days to set up your first
linux / unix box. my experience is though once you've been through the
pain and its up, you CAN go production. The first server (linux) I ever
setup (and it took us three days) is still running and only goes down
when asked to, last time was for an upgrade. How many of us can say
that about our Windows NT systems?

I am looking at linux in our org (only about 600 seats) for exactly the
reasons you said. I don't want some users 1000's miles from me
reinstalling a driver or addding some software that his buddy gave to
him. These are production machines not user toys, as Mckeysoft would
have us belive.
