Hey all,

I am in the process of upgrading my kernel from 2.2.5 to 2.2.10 and
understand that I need an upgrade of the following packages and libraries:

        Linux lib5 C Library (libc)
        Linux lib6 C Library (glibc)
        Net-Tools
        NFS
        PCMCIA-cs
        PPP

I have a few questions before I start:

1) Where is your favorite place to find all of these. I've tried the links
Linus put into the docs, but only a few of them worked! (You'd think he
would be more careful. :-) I've gone to RedHat to find rpm's and found
that very few of these are RPM'ed yet because they're fairly new. I've
gone to many many many sites and still can't find PPP, PCMCIA-cs,
NFS... I've tried all the usual suspects: linuxhq, sunsite, tux, GNU, etc
etc... How exasperating...

2) I found the libc package, and Linus warns that it could break make, as
well as a few other warnings and admonitions from the various coders along
the way. In short, they've all instilled the Fear of God in me about
updating this omnipotent library package. I'm paralyzed... Does anyone
have any tips/secrets/suggestions for a painless and happy install of libc
and glibc??

3) NFS comes in two flavors: server NFS and "user-land" NFS, but I haven't
been able to glean the difference. Any clues??

4) Any good FAQs and documentation about upgrading essential Linux
components would be greatly appreciated...

I am running RedHat 6.0 on a Dell XPS70 Pentium.

Thanks in advance,
-j-
