Hi !
There is normally a program coming along with KDE called usekde. Try first
to start it right from the prompt, if this doesn't work go to the KDE
directory (/opt/kde) if it is there, if yes then you have to start it
within the kde dir. This program will make any necessary changes to make
KDE ur default desktop.
