I'm sorry to keep butting in on this subject but, netscape as i have said
in my previous mails should start ok even with a heavy load on your system,
as i have said it takes 3 seconds to start nescape here. I consider my
machine to be a little more than avarage in use.
For clarity its a P333 with 64Mb and a SCSI disk and a Adaptec
AHA-2944 Ultra SCSI host adapter
When i say netscape takes 3 seconds i have the following in use.
1 SCC 8 bits card with 4 ports, that is in itself interrupt intensive,
1 BTTV TV card in use also a very heavy interrupt user.
2 ethernet cards.
One serial line to another server.
NFS mounts over ethernet.
KDE as my window manager.
kmail runs constanly as does kwintv for the TV card.
Normally 4 Xterms open + this and that.
I run tunneling IPIPEncapsulation over ethernet as well.
Still netscape 4.7 takes 3 seconds to load, of course i have a ethernet
cable modem, so any DNS lookups take Millisec's not seconds.
Note the DNS lookups, thats the biggest problem, that in itself is a reason
to start netscape with a "blank page".
This thread has been disscussed many times before, AFAIK, the reason for all
the mails was a slow DNS lookup causing netscape to hick.
