pppd 2.3.10, ioctl(TIOCSETD): Invalid argument(22)

It works fine when I load 2.2.12.. if I reboot and try 2.3.18, I get this:

connect[232]: Connected at 50667
pppd[208]: Serial connection established.
modprobe: can't locate module tty-ldisc-3
pppd[208]: ioctl(TIOCSETD): Invalid argument(22)
pppd[208]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
pppd[208]: Exit.

pppd was compiled with the 2.3.18 headers, also.
Any ideas? :)
