Somebody must have missed an essential part of this thread, namely the
answer, "there is no general way." The comment, "because I damn well want
it to," is not helpful because it denies the opportunity to continue this
discussion towards a solution to the problem. Please note the problem is
unlikely to be a need to use the exact same interface, rather it's likely
to be a problem relating to collecting data from a PPP session. As has
been said (numerous times) before a constant PPP interface name is unlikely
to be a required feature of the solution.
I trust nobody will complain about this useful reply (if I say so myself)
being sent to the same distribution as the question?
